Christie’s New York Estates, Appraisals and Valuation Expert Joins Garth’s + Selkirk
Simon Wills, formerly of Christie’s in New York, has joined Garth’s Auctioneers and Appraisers
(Columbus) and Selkirk Auctioneers and Appraisers (St. Louis). Simon's career spans a decade serving various roles at Christie's, most recently as Vice President and Senior Account Manager in the Estates, Appraisals and Valuations department. Now as Account and Business Development Manager, as well as Fine Art Specialist and Consignment Representative, at Garth’s + Selkirk, Simon will bring additional depth of knowledge and experience in handling complex consignments.
“Literally trillions of dollars of wealth is transferring at record rates from Baby Boomers through to the next generation,” stated Jeff Jeffers, Chief Executive Officer. “We’re continuing to grow our team to meet this rapidly growing need for specialized expertise and to reach further into the national and international markets.”
“I’m thrilled to bring more than 10 years of experience working with one of the leaders in the global art business to Garth’s + Selkirk,” Simon added. “These two highly respected names, together, have added a new dimension to the auction and appraisal world. It’s energizing to be part of the expanding scope of the services we offer to customers and their trusted advisors.”
Simon was responsible for more than 50 accounts annually, working with top clients—from serious private collectors, to major institutions and corporations—as well as trust and estate fiduciaries. He provides appraisals for insurance, financial planning, and IRS-facing purposes. Simon additionally oversaw large and complex auction consignments, which during his tenure generated aggregate sales of nearly $100 million.
Prior to joining Christie's, Simon graduated from the Art Institute of Boston where he received a BFA with a major in illustration. Simon also worked as a freelance commercial illustrator, as well as for Harper's Magazine, the oldest continuously published magazine in America, where he sourced artwork for the magazine.
Simon will serve both the Selkirk St. Louis office and Garth’s in Columbus, Ohio, where his wife is on the faculty of The Ohio State University.
Upcoming auctions include Fine & Vintage Jewelry and Eclectic Auctions on December 1 and 2, respectively. Selkirk will hold the Winter Gallery Auction, December 10. Both are accepting consignments for a diverse line-up of 2017 auctions in Columbus and St. Louis.
