Fine Art Auction Fundraiser Upcoming at HMA

The Huntington Museum of Art is partnering with Garth's Auctions of Columbus, Ohio for the second year to host a fine art auction from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 21, with a preview from 1 to 2 p.m., featuring more than 170 works of art to support the museum.

The works included in the sale were supplied by private donors, living artists, as well as a number of galleries doing business with the museum. The museum is partnering with Garth’s Auctioneers & Appraisers of Columbus.

“The Fine Art Auction has become a very successful fundraiser for the Huntington Museum of Art,” HMA’s Executive Director Geoffrey K. Fleming said. “Artworks are available starting at every price level, from $25 on up. This event can be a nice introduction for someone who has never attended an auction, yet experienced collectors will find several items to bid on as well.”

The auction will feature original works of art by both contemporary, regionalist artists as well as paintings by well-known and important artists of the past. Among the contemporary artists whose work will be included in the sale is the noted cameo glass artist Kelsey Murphy. Other West Virginia artists whose works will be featured include Vernon Howell, Adele Thornton Lewis, Raymond McNamara, Laura Moul, Poochie Myers and Susan Petryszak.

Other listed artists include Charles Curtis Allen, Frank W. Benson, Edmund Blampied, Pierre Bonnard, Alice Standish Buell, Nicolai Cikovsky, Esther Topp Edmonds Albert Lorey Groll, Olle Hanspers, Harry Leslie Hoffman, Reginald Marsh, Edgar Otis Miner, Carl J. Nordell, Joseph Rinkowski, Walter Satterlee, Narcisse Vivien, William Lionel Wyllie and Tomoe Yokoi.

Attendees will be invited to view the works at a reception prior to the auction from 1 to 2 p.m., where they will be able to see close up and in person the works to be offered for sale. Admission to the event is $10 per person.

For those who wish to bid but cannot remain for the live auction, the museum will offer the opportunity to bid by phone as well as to leave bids to be executed by the principal auctioneer from Garth’s, Richard "Jeff" Jeffers. A buyer’s premium of 10 percent will be added to all successful bids executed in house. For bidders who cannot attend the auction or arrange bids in person, an online bidding service is available via invaluable.com, which adds 15 percent to all successful bids.
