Reginaphone Leads the Show at Garth’s April 6th Eclectic Auction

On April 6th, Garth’s held its first Eclectic Auction of the spring. Even though the weather was erratic, inside on the saleroom floor prices remained high and bidders kept up their spirits bidding on the large variety of quality antiques and collectibles available.
The top lot of the sale was a mahogany Reginaphone disc player in a serpentine case with an open molded top on a matching stand and discs, which sold for an impressive $8,165. Other music boxes included two Columbia Grafanolas, which brought $776.25 and $747.50, and a Chautauqua Roller Organ in a stencil decorated case realized $402.50.
Among the furniture a large mahogany slant front desk with curved double mechanical doors brought $3,220, a set of four Gustav Stickley Craftsman chairs with original leather seats realized $2,070 and a three part Victorian bookcase with carved and applied decoration sold for $1610. A Waterbury tall case clock in oak with original brass pendulum brought $1,725, a small octagonal bolt bin on a rectangular base with drawers and original red and black paint put away a high bid of $1,035 and a Windsor side chair with scroll carved ears and black paint sold for a comfortable $805.
Smalls of note included a Boston Clock Co ornate brass cased mantle clock that brought $977.50, a bronze statue of a goddess with a lyre titled L. Harmonie struck a chord with buyers and sold for $776.25, a pair of ornate four arm candelabras with green marble bases and ormolu decoration and cherub pedestals realized $1,150. A framed sampler featuring two houses, trees and a strawberry border stitched up a high bid of 690, a signed blue Aurene Steuben vase brought $575 and a Columbian County, OH red, white and blue coverlet sold for $373.75.
The end of the sale featured a group of guns, powder horns and knives. A Richmond Armory carbine rifle marked CSA fired up the crowd when it sold for a high bid of $4,140, a collection of Confederate paper money, coins and bank notes sold for $2,760 and a US saber dated 1864 and signed Mansfield and Lamb, Forestdale, RI brought $517.50.
