PAINTED "PLANTATION" DESK. Two-piece pine with old red brown paint over traces of earlier red with a desirable worn crazed finish. Bold crown molding projects over two panel doors, opening to warm pine interior with cubbyholes and two fixed shelves. The base has a framed lift lid writing surface with good overhang, opening to a storage compartment and a false drawer front. Curlicue brackets frame tapered legs. Minor replacement and edge loss. Second quarter 19th Century. American. 71"h. 35 3/4"w. 28"d. 30 1/2" writing height. Estimate $ 2,000-4,000
Right hand side of upper case edge has loss as does the lower back right foot. Old tar (?) spill on inside upper case. Compartment bottom maybe an old replacement.
